This paper presents the current progress and the future trends in the area of robotics and automation. As one of the main international organizations on robotics and automation, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society(RAS)is devoted to im-proving the influence of this area, connecting research and industry, and promoting the cooperation with governments and other international organizations, in which way to face the challenge in the future.

Raja Chatila IEEE 机器人与自动化学会主席(2014-2015 年),IEEE Fellow。现任法国科技研究中心研究主任、巴黎第六大学智能系统与机器人研究所主任、人机交互卓越实验室主任。2007-2010年曾任法国科技研究中心系统分析与架构实验室主任。研究领域涵盖机器人导航、即时定位与地图构建、运动规划与控制、认知与控制架构、人-机交互、机器人学习能力等。主持或参与过研制服务机器人、特种机器人、飞行机器人和空间机器人的项目,并在以上领域发表学术论文140余篇。E-mail: Raja.Chatila@isir.upmc.fr
